It is a unique experience not to be missed. After lunch, proceed to Dambulla. Visit the Dambulla Cave Temple – a vast isolated rock mass measuring 500ft high and a mile around the base. Day 3: SIGIRIYA/KANDALAMA – MATALE – KANDY (B/L/D)

After breakfast, embark on a climb to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Home to the 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky”, it is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder of the Island. It is also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the fortress. In Matale, visit the Spice Garden and enjoy a hot cup of spice tea. See how the luscious cinnamon, cardamoms, pepper and other aromatic plants are grown and processed. You can also purchase your requirements of spices. After lunch, proceed to Kandy. In the afternoon, enjoy a city tour of Kandy which includes Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Kandy Market, Silk Garden, and Kandy shopping. Visit a Batik Factory where you can see the manufacture of beautiful Batik prints. The shop contains a wide variety of Batik items. Kandy, the hill capital, venue of the annual Perahera and the last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings was finally ceded to the British in 1815. It is an example of Buddhism’s influence in Sri Lanka today. Temple’s shrines and monasteries keeping alive Buddhist traditions are everywhere. Ever since 4th Century A.D., when the Buddha’s Tooth was brought to Sri Lanka hidden from sacrilegious hands in an Orissan princess’ hair, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic has grown in repute and holiness in Sri Lanka and throughout the Buddhist world. The Relic is considered Sri Lanka’s most prized possession. In the evening, witness the Kandyan Dance performance.

It is supposed to be one of the coldest places on the island, but is really just like an England spring day although the temperature does drop at night. Tea was first planted in Sri Lanka in 1824 at the Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, when a few plants were brought from China. More were introduced from Assam in 1839. Enjoy lunch at a restaurant.
