Day 1: Singapore – Helsinki

SIN/HEL                 AY 132                 2335/0625+1
Assemble at Changi International Airport for your flight to Reykjavik via Helsinki.

Day 2: Helsinki – Reykjavik (D)

HEL/KEF                 AY 991                 0745/0835
After a short drive from the airport, we will experience one of the most unusual places in Iceland, where we put on our swimming costumes and go bathing in the Blue Lagoon, a natural mineral-rich geothermal pool in the middle of a large and dramatic lava field between airport and city area. It is special and invigorating because it is reputed for its healing properties. After the bath we will continue our trip to Reykjavik.

Day 3: Reykjavik – Snaefellsnes – Reykholt (B/L/D)

After breakfast, depart to Snaefellsnes peninsula. Today visit places such as Budir white sand beach, Arnarstapi rock formation and Kirkjufell Mountain. After the tour, transfer to Reykholt.

Day 4: Reykholt – Golden Circle – Selfoss (B/L/D)

From Reykholt, enjoy the drive to Þingvellir National Park. It is the most important historical place of Iceland, the old parliament site, where in the year 930AD the national assembly was founded to rule the country. Take a short walk through the old sites trying and experience the atmosphere of long gone times. Þingvellir is not only important for Icelandic history, but also a place of high geological interest, a place where the meeting of the two drifting continental plates can be seen. After a drive through the agricultural area of the south, arrive at Gullfoss which is known in Iceland as the Queen of Icelandic waterfalls. The water tumbles 32 meters into the canyon of Hvítá (the white river) after having travelled 30 km from glacier Langjökull (the long glacier) in the north. Nearby is the fascinating geothermal area of Geysir. The most active geysir is Strokkur (“the churn”) which can spout up to seventy feet every five to seven minutes. Continue to Selfoss for overnight stay.

Day 5: Selfoss – Vik – Hofn (B/L/D)

This morning, we will visit the Lava center whereby you can understand more about Volcanoes. Next, visit the Skógar Waterfall and watch them fall gracefully 60m down the green mountain. Next, drive through the southernmost villages of Iceland; Vík, before driving through the black sands of
Mýrdalssandur and through the lava fields of Eldhraun (fire lava) resulted from a yearlong eruption in 1783. This eruption was devastating for Iceland, and the years that followed are referred to as the “misty times” due to the volcanic ash lingering for a long time in the air. We pass through the small village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur then we will have one night in Hofn area.

Day 6: Hofn – Jökulsárlón – Nupar (B/L/D)

Today, drive over to Skeiðarársandur, where the flood of 1996 temporarily cut off this road and some of its bridges, leaving iceberg scattered around the sandy plains. Next, enjoy a visit to the glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón, the largest lagoon in Iceland. Jökulsárlón has been a setting for popular Hollywood movies such as ‘Die Another Day’, ‘Tomb Raider’ and ‘Batman Begins’. Take a walk around the area of the floating icebergs and enjoy the breathtaking sceneries. Then, drive along the south coast with Vatnajökull Glacier and the highest peak in Iceland, Hvannadalshnjúkur.

Day 7: Nupar – Reykjavík (B/L/D)

After breakfast, drive along the south coast and head back to Reykjavík. Stop at the black beach of Reynisfjara with Reynisdrangar, black basalt columns sculpted by the sea. An Icelandic folk tale says that they are former trolls which were caught outside at dawn. Our next stop is the outstanding Seljalandsfoss waterfall falling narrowly from 50m. It will be possible to see it from all sides as we can walk behind it – with care and with the risk of getting wet! Continue to Reykjavík for overnight stay.

Day 8: Reykjanes – Reykjavik City Tour (B/L/D)

Today, discover the wonders of the Reykjanes peninsula with old lava flows, the grand barrenness, ruff shore-side, spectacular breaking surf, hot spring areas, small fishing villages and abundant bird life. Stop near a tall lighthouse to the pinnacles of rock, in which birds nest in summer at the extreme tip of the peninsula. Next, cross a small bridge between two continents, the American and Eurasian continental plates. Then, head back toReykjavik for a city tour and learn about the life of the Icelandic capital from its very beginning till the present day. Pass by Hallgrimskirkja Church and enjoy a photo stop at Hofoi house, where the Reagan/Gorbachev summit meeting took place in 1986. From the City Hall, take a walk through the city centre to the street where the first settler built his house. Next visit the Parliament, Lutheran cathedral, the sculpture of Skuli Magnusson, the founder of Reykjavik and Jon sigurosson. After which, drive past the Catholic Church and enjoy the panoramic view over Reykjavik, the fjord and mountains from the balcony at the pearl.
